Frequently asked questions.
What is Art Career Journey?
Art Career Journey is a curated art retreat experience that combines creative growth, professional development, and meaningful travel. Founded and hosted by Michelle Lam—graphic novel author, illustrator, content creator, and former LA-based storyboard artist—these retreats are designed for artists who want to deepen their practice while exploring inspiring new environments.
Each retreat brings together a community of like-minded creatives for workshops, group activities, and local exploration. It's not just about travel, it's about connecting with others, learning new skills, and gaining fresh perspective on your creative career.
Whether you're an emerging artist or a seasoned creative, Art Career Journey offers the space, support, and inspiration to help you grow—both personally and professionally.
What is included / excluded on a trip?
What’s included in your trip depends on the specific destination and type of retreat.
For U.S.-based retreats, accommodations and local transportation are not included. These trips are designed with flexibility in mind, allowing local travelers to join more affordably by arranging their own lodging and transportation. The workshops, activities, location admissions, and both a welcome and farewell group dinner are included in your ticket price.
For international retreats, accommodations and inter-city transportation are typically included, along with all workshops, activities, location admissions, and the beginning and end group dinners. You'll also receive a few surprise goodies as part of your experience!
Each retreat page will clearly outline what’s included, so you’ll know exactly what to expect before booking.
Who will I be traveling with?
You’re welcome to join a trip solo or bring a plus one (or more!)—just make sure each person secures their own ticket. You’ll be traveling alongside a group of fellow artists and creatives who are also looking to grow, connect, and be inspired.
Each retreat typically includes 12–24 participants, depending on the destination. Domestic trips tend to be smaller and more intimate, while international retreats are slightly larger and often include a local tour guide to help us navigate the experience.
Your host, Michelle Lam, will be with you on every trip, guiding workshops, joining activities, and making sure everything runs smoothly. You’ll also be accompanied by a photographer/videographer to help capture the journey—so you can focus on being present and creative.
If I cancel my trip, will I get a refund?
Depending on the trip you join, refund policies may differ.
For international trips, check the respective trip page for more details on the refund policy. For domestic trips, you can get a full refund up to 60 days before the trip’s start date.
Who can I contact regarding the trip?
